PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water purifier that is capable of inexpensively removing lead and to provide a method for removing lead. SOLUTION: The water purifier that has a means to adjust a pH of a liquid to be treated to 9.0-10.0 in the prior stage to a filtration membrane is able to perform the removal of lead while keeping the running cost cheap without using an expensive filter medium. It is preferable that a hollow-fiber membrane as a filtering membrane is used to enhance the removing efficiency and further preferable that a polyethylene hollow-fiber membrane is used. It is preferable that the injection of an aqueous alkaline solution or the electrolysis is performed as an adjusting means of pH. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
