In a mobile communication device, in order to reduce power consumed by searching for accessible base stations, the band search processing time is reduced. Thus the time required from the moment the mobile communication device is powered-on to the completion of a searching action is to be reduced. The predetermined frequency band of base station channels is divided into groups in ascending frequency order. The number of frequencies in each of the groups is smaller than the number of frequencies constituting the predetermined frequency band. A single frequency is set as a representative frequency in each group. It is checked whether the representative frequency of each group satisfies a first condition on the basis of a received signal strength indicator (S11).
