PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method of forming patterns has no environmental influence, shortens drying time, and does not require a special facility for drying and heating and provides excellent workability. SOLUTION: The method of forming a facing layer comprises forming the facing layer by applying a thermoplastic resin (hot melt resin) on the surface of a planar building material or the inner and exterior surfaces of a building, then bringing the coloring materials heated to a temperature higher than the softening temperature of the applied thermoplastic resin into contact with the surface coated with the thermoplastic resin to soften the surface coated with the thermoplastic resin thereby thermally bonding the coloring materials to the surface coated with the thermoplastic resin. The thermoplastic resin is colored to arbitrary colors by dyes, pigments or their paste. The method of forming the facing layer as described above. The method of forming the facing layer, as describe above, comprising forming the multicolor patterns by combining the coloring materials colored to≥2 colors and the thermoplastic resin or the hot melt resin.
