PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent oblivious removal of a protective cover for a discharge lamp covering the discharge lamp for protecting it after mounting a discharge lamp to the discharge lamp device. SOLUTION: A resistor circuit 42 or a capacitor circuit 20 connected between both terminals 5 of the discharge lamp 1 or between both bases 3 thereof is mounted on this protective cover 4 for the discharge lamp for covering the discharge lamp 1. As a result, when removal of the protective cover is forgotten after mounting the discharge lamp to the discharge lamp device, the discharge lamp cannot be lit even if a switch for the discharge lamp is turned on, so that the oblivious removal of the protective cover for the discharge lamp can be prevented.
