PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an angle-of-rotation detecting device that can detect an absolute angle of rotation of an object to be detected. SOLUTION: This angle-of-rotation detecting device is provided with one or a plurality of first targets 3a attached to a steering shaft 13 so that a first and a second detecting means 1A and 1B may output detect signals of mutually different phases, as the shaft 13 is rotated and detects the angle of rotation of the shaft 13 based on the detect signals outputted from the detecting means 1A and 1B. This detecting device is also provided with second targets 3b the number of which is decided so that the number may become relatively prime to that of the first targets 3a, and which are attached to the steering shaft 13 and third and fourth detecting means 3A and 3B which are disposed to face the second targets 3b and output detect signals of different phases as the shaft 13 is rotated. This detecting device detects the angle of rotation of the steering shaft 13 based on the detect signals outputted from the first to fourth detecting means 1A, 1B, 3A, and 3B.
