PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing member which has rolling fatigue properties more excellent than those of carbon steel for machine structures widely used as the stock of machine structural parts heretofore, and has excellent workability as well. SOLUTION: The steel comprises, by mass, 0.48 to <0.60% C, 0.70 to 1.2% Si, 0.50 to 1.2% Mn, 0.005 to 0.050% Al,≤0.5% Cr,≤0.1% Mo,≤0.015% P,≤0.015% S and≤0.0015% O, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and a content of solid solution N in an induction-hardened part after an induction hardening-tempering is controlled to≤25 ppm.
