PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform head check without sacrifice of print speed. SOLUTION: A thermal head 5 is arranged with a heating element A-array 51 and a heating element B-array 52 and print processing is performed using the heating element A-array 51 and the heater B-array 52 alternately. When specified print data is being printed onto a sheet 1 by the heating element A-array 51, each heating element constituting the heating element B-array 52 is checked sequentially for disconnection. Upon ending printing by the heating element A-array 51, print data is printed onto the sheet 1 by the heating element B-array 52. During print operation, each heating element constituting the heating element A-array 51 is checked for disconnection. Print processing is performed alternately using the heating element A-array 51 and the heating element B- array 52 and heating elements not used for print processing are checked for disconnection during print operation.
