PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image composing apparatus in which a highly accurate synthetic image is easily obtained regardless of a luminance distribution of image data without pressing much labor or time consumption on a user. SOLUTION: In the image composing apparatus for synthesizing an image of a wide dynamic range from at least two images having different exposure quantities, the image composing apparatus is provided with a photographing means 10 for photographing a proper exposed image photographed with a suitable exposure quantity and a different exposed image photographed with an exposure quantity different from that of the proper exposed image, a dividing means 22 for dividing a low frequency area from the proper exposed image based upon frequency information of the proper exposed image, a statistic means 23 for finding a statistic quantity of a feature amount of a pixel signal in the low frequency area, a determining means 24 for determining a pixel signal level to divide the pixel signal of the proper exposed image into a proper area and a light area or a dark area based upon the statistic quantity, and a composing means 18 for composing the proper exposed image and the different exposed image while correcting gradations in accordance with an exposure quantity ratio on the border of the pixel signal level.
