PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a lens protection effect in an image pickup device using a collapsible mount type lens. SOLUTION: Touch sensors 18A and 18B are respectively provided at both left and right end parts of the front of a digital camera 10 to sense the photographing will of a photographer. When both touch sensors 18A and 18B sense contact, it is judged that the photographer holds the digital camera 10 with both hands showing his/her strong will of photographing. When either of the touch sensors 18a and 18A and 18B senses contact, it is judged that he/she holds the digital camera 10 with one hand showing his/her weak will of photographing and when neither touch sensor 18A or 18B senses contact, it is judged that he/she does not hold the digital camera 10 showing no will of photographing. An auto power off start time is set in accordance with levels (high/low/no) of sensed photographing will of the photographer, such as to a longer time in the case of the strong will of photographing, to a shorter time in the case of no will of photographing and to the intermediate time between them in the case of the weak will.
