An approach to reducing the size of apparatus related to power plants is presented. The apparatus size reduction is effected by a replacement of hardwired communications between controller modules and devices modules with wireless communications between the modules. Methods for diagnosing power plant devices via wireless communications are presented. Wireless communications using evanescent electromagnetic waves is presented.
