<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure control system for a camera that takes a photograph of a main object with correct exposure regardless of the composition of a photographic scene by comparing the luminance of an area of a photographic image plane in which the main object exists with the average luminance of the photographic image plane, thereby judging whether the photographic scene is in a backlight status or not. <P>SOLUTION: The exposure control system has a backlight judgement section 7 which judges whether a photographic scene is in a backlight status or not, by comparing the average luminance of the entire photographic image plane obtained by photometry with the luminance of a main object at a range-finding point selected by range-finding. In the case of the photographic scene in the backlight status, the system exerts appropriate exposure control accompanied by illumination, such as auxiliary light, at the time of exposure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
