A fuel cell is often subject to performance deterioration or destruction due to creep or stress relaxation in electrolyte. A fuel cell comprising a plurality of polymer electrolyte membranes laminated on each other interposed between gas diffusion electrodes by the application of a clamping pressure, wherein the polymer electrolyte membrane comprises beads incorporated therein for counteracting the clamping pressure.
