PURPOSE: A device for controlling a picture ratio is provided to enable a user to control a ratio of a picture displayed on TV by only operating a picture ratio selection key comprised on a remote controller or a disk driver or a disk reproducer, thereby easily controlling the picture ratio. CONSTITUTION: An image display(120) displays an image. A system controller(115) determines at least one picture ratio mode based on picture ratio information of a source image to be supplied to the image display(120) and picture ratio information supported from the image display(120), and controls a picture ratio of the source image supplied to the image display(120) so that the image displayed on the image display(120) can be converted into a selected picture ratio made whenever a user requests to select the picture ratio. A remote control receiver(116) receives the picture ratio selection request. The remote control receiver(116) further receives a selection signal for the picture ratio information supported from the image display(120).
