<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processing apparatus and method capable of matching images only with a very small computing amount and detecting a motion vector or the like with high accuracy, and to provide a recording medium and a program. <P>SOLUTION: In the case that pixel values P1 to P9 of nine pixels included in a class code tap is in a state as shown in the figure, first the ADRC generates a class code 101001111 in 9-bits. Then a first table is referenced to acquire 2 being the number of bits corresponding to the class code 101001111 in 9 bits. Then two pixel values P6, P8 closest to a threshold value Th are classified into two ways in the case of encoding them into 0 and 1 respectively, and class codes 101000101, 101000111, 101001101, and 101001111 in 9-bits of four kinds (=2<SP>2</SP>) are generated.
