PURPOSE: A method for reducing the emission of a vehicle is provided to prevent the thermal damage on a catalyst and to reduce the fuel consumption by controlling the air-fuel ratio rich when the temperature of the catalyst is over a predetermined temperature. CONSTITUTION: A control unit detect the MAP(Manifold Absolute Pressure) of the intake air and compares the MAP to a first wide open throttle table value predetermined depending on the engine load(S310). IF the MAP is over the first wide open throttle table value, a first elapse time is detected and the first elapse time is compared to a first retard time(S314). If the first elapse time is over the first retard time, the control unit performs a control action to inject fuel and to obtain rich air-fuel ratio(S316).
