PURPOSE: A method and a device for scanning an image are provided to need no opening/closing detecting sensor by checking the opening/closing of a cover through the judgment of the brightness detected from an image input sensor. CONSTITUTION: A brightness examination controller(100) examines that the lightness of the light detected from the image input sensor is in a range of the predetermined lightness, and outputs an examination result as a control signal. An image scanner(140) scans the image by receiving the control signal. The brightness examination controller is equipped with a position setting part, a brightness comparator, and a brightness deciding part.
