APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OPERATION OF CLOCKWISE/COUNTERCLOCKWISE ROTATION COMPRESSOR OF REFRIGERATOR HAVING POLE-CHANGING MOTOR

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling an operation of a clockwise/counterclockwise rotation compressor of a refrigerator having a pole-changing motor are provided to improve the operating efficiency by changing a rotation direction of the compressor according to a load state of the refrigerator. CONSTITUTION: A current detection unit(15) detects the current applied to a compressor. A load detection unit(16) detects a present load of a refrigerator by using the detected current. A microcomputer(12) is used for comparing the present load of the refrigerator with the first and the second reference loads and outputting a driving control signal and a pole-changing control signal according to a compared result. A clockwise/counterclockwise rotation signal generation unit(11) generates a clockwise rotation signal and a counterclockwise rotation signal to drive a compressor. A pole-changing signal generation unit(14) generates a pole-change signal to select 2-poles or 4-poles.
