<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light utilization factor of a light source, improve the generation of a phenomenon what is called a color breakup phenomenon, simplify the constitution and reduce the production cost, and also make a high definition display performable in a projection type display device of a field sequential display system. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display device is equipped with the light source 1 emitting white light, a color selection filter 5 selecting a specified color component from the light emitted from the light source 1, a wire grid 6 splitting the light passing through the filter 5 in accordance with a polarization state, 1st and 2nd display panels 9 and 14 on which the light split by the wire grid 6 is made incident respectively, a polarizing beam splitter 10 compositing the light beams passing through the 1st and the 2nd display panels 9 and 14, and a projection lens 15 projecting the light composited by the splitter 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
