<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical material which can enhance light extraction efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The optical material includes fine particles of a metal oxide such as titanium oxide having the mean particle diameter of 50 nm or less, and a binder such as a polybutyral resin for interposing between the particles of the metal oxide. A method of manufacturing the optical material comprises a process (A) for obtaining a suspension in which the metal oxide is shattered into the fine particles having the mean particle diameter of 50 nm or less by mixing and stirring the metal oxide, beads for pulverization having a particle diameter of 0.4 mm or less and a solvent, a process (B) for removing the beads for pulverization from the suspension obtained in the process (A), and a process (C) for obtaining the optical material including the fine particles of the metal oxide and the binder by adding the binder at an arbitrary time point including the processes (A) and (B). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
