<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new DNA methyltransferase enabling completely deactivating a supposed genetic unit in view of the fact that when a conventionally known selective DNA methyltransferase is used, it is not clear whether a deactivation can be completely carried out, and a sufficient gene expression control cannot be carried out with such a selective DNA methyltransferase alone. <P>SOLUTION: The new DNA methyltransferase is called NtDRM1.
