摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely recover waste heat of an internal combustion engine by surely operating a waste-heat-recovering device. <P>SOLUTION: The waste-heat recovering device is provided in an exhaust path downstream of a catalyst in the internal combustion engine wherein combustion can be switched between a 1st combustion and a 2nd combustion. In the 1st combustion, the amount of EGR gas supplied into a combustion chamber is larger than an EGR-gas amount at which the amount of generated soot peaks. In the 2nd combustion, the amount of EGR gas supplied into the combustion chamber is smaller than the amount of EGR-gas at which a soot-generation amount peaks. At the time when the waste-heat-recovering device is to be operated (XRE=1), if the state of engine operation is in a region IA in which the 1st combustion is to be performed, the 1st combustion is conducted (134), and if the state of engine operation is outside the region IA, the 2nd combustion is conducted (146). Then, the temperature TEX of the exhaust gas flowing in the waste-heat recovering device is lower than temperature TRES of waste-heat recovery, a temperature elevation treatment (138) is conducted, where an additional fuel is injected in exhaust gas, e.g. in an expansion process or discharge process. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
