The method involves forming a piece of timber (20) with core (22) of a tree and compressing the piece for reducing the humidity content of piece to a desired low rate. The piece is compressed by applying a desired pressure on it using a set of compression plates (10) arranged around it. The piece is processed to get a desired form.
