PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for dry distilling sewage sludge to about 800 deg.C, thereby manufacturing carbide of sewage sludge to reduce volume of sludge as much as about 90%, cause less problems in the sanitary and safety aspects and obtain the same properties as charcoal so that the carbide is used in a wide range of applications. CONSTITUTION: The sludge carbonization apparatus comprises a conveyor installed under a dryer for drying sludge; a carbonization furnace(104) at one side of which a hopper(103) for collecting sludge of the conveyor is installed, at the other side of which a fuel reheating part is installed, and on a lower one side of which a preheating burner(110) is mounted; and a cooler(105) installed under the carbonization furnace, wherein the apparatus further comprises an outer pipe(200) and an inner pipe(201) installed in multistage and constructed in a double structure; a space part(202) formed between the outer and inner pipes so that a heat source supplied from the preheating burner and the fuel reheating part is transferred to the space part as a indirect heat; screws(203) traversely embedded in the outer and inner pipes of the multistage and connected to a power source such that the screws are independently driven; a screw(203) embedded in the cooler; and a cooling wall(204) installed on the outer surface of the cooler to cool and emit heated heat source of the carbonization furnace so that efficiency of carbonization is improved.
