<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a contact avoidance operation such as alarming or brake control depending on a driver's braking operation, and accurately trigger the contact avoidance operation. <P>SOLUTION: If a brake pedal is operated (Step S23) and a relative velocity Vr is smaller than a threshold Vr0, a threshold TTCth of collision time TTC for determining of possibility of contact is set at a subnormal value TTC1 to suppress intervention of automatic braking while the driver recognizes the obstruction. If the relative velocity Vr is larger than the threshold Vr0, the threshold TTCth is returned to normal TTC0 to effect an intervention of automatic braking for contact avoidance if the brake pedal stroke is found insufficient to ensure sufficient deceleration. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
