A device and a method for correctly judging if content recording processing is in progress to enable reproduction processing to be executed under correct control. A recording control process which executes content recording processing generates reproduction synchronization management information, which has a reproduction synchronization management information name defined uniquely by the reproduction management information name of reproduction management information, and stores the generated information in a directory that is erased automatically when the system is started or in a volatile memory in which the data is erased when power is turned off. A reproduction control process extracts the reproduction synchronization management information according to the reproduction management information name and judges if recording is in progress to control the reproduction process. When power is turned off and then turned on, the reproduction synchronization management information is reset to prevent the reproduction control process from wrongly performing control assuming that recording is simultaneously in progress.
