The method involves placing an impeller (1) in water, such that the water flows in opposite direction on sets of opposite blades (5-8) fixed along the direction of a stream line, to drive the impeller in a determined rotation direction. The position of a rotation plane of the impeller is modified to follow the movement of the stream line, so that the plane and line are parallel to each other, irrespective of the orientation of the line. An independent claim is also included for a device for implementing a method of driving an impeller.
