An illumination apparatus, for example an Advent candelabra with a plurality of different lamps (5) which may be lit and extinguished independently of one another, has a current source (1) which is connected to a signal emitter (3) with a switch (12). The signal emitter (3) and a regulator device (4) are interconnected via a conductor (2). Depending on whether the switch (12) is closed or open, it emits signals to the regulator device (4) which control the lighting and extinguishing of the lamps (5).
