<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an optical anisotropic liquid crystal layer on a substrate with sufficient adhesion and without orientation unevenness when an optical anisotropic material is manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical anisotropic material in which an optical anisotropic liquid crystal layer is formed on the substrate, a substrate surface is subjected to rubbing processing, the rubbing-processed surface is subjected to surface treatment with an hydrolyzate of an alkoxysilane compound, a polymerizable nematic liquid crystal composition is applied onto the surface-treated surface, the applied polymerizable nematic liquid crystal composition is subjected to orientation treatment and the polymerizable nematic liquid crystal composition is subjected to curing treatment while maintaining its orientation state to form the optical anisotropic liquid crystal layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
