<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film having both of excellent heat resistance and optical characteristics capable of forming various functional layers at a high temperature, and to provide an image display device excellent in display quality using the optical film. <P>SOLUTION: The optical film is composed of a polyimide having a repeating unit represented by general formula (1). The image display device is obtained by using the film. Wherein in the general formula (1), X shows a divalent group containing a cyclic hydrocarbon of a monocyclic type or a condensed polycyclic type or containing a heterocycle, and A is a bisphthalic acid or its derivative containing a linking group of general formula (2). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
