<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inverter controller for driving a motor which prevents the breakdown of each driving element caused by an overvoltage of the regenerative energy of the motor, by using a capacitor of an extremely small capacity for the size reduction of the controller. <P>SOLUTION: The controller includes a single-phase ac power source 1, a rectifying circuit 2, an inverter 4, the motor 5, the capacitor 3 of an extremely small capacity which is connected between dc bus bars, and a load 6 by which regenerative energy is consumed by the load 6 when the regenerative energy is generated.
