<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zero-emission method for the effective utilization of wood, producing basic industrial chemicals such as methanol, methyl formate, ethanol, lactic acid and propanediol and carbon material from wood while effectively utilizing recovered heat, supplying surplus electric power left after the consumption of power in the plant, steam and hot water and having high utilization rate of heat from the view point of the apparatus cost and the operation cost. <P>SOLUTION: Industrial raw materials are produced from wood by performing steam modification of wood to form a reaction mixture containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen, reacting the carbon monoxide and hydrogen separated from the mixture to form methanol and carbonylating the obtained methanol to form methyl formate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
