<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inform a user that one tone data includes an element in which a parameter common to each element is effective in generating musical sound and an element in which the parameter is not effective. <P>SOLUTION: The tone data (voice A) used in an electronic musical instrument EM is composed of a plurality of elements Em1-Em8. Each element includes a plurality of musical sound control parameters, and is a minimum unit that composes a musical instrument tone itself. One or more elements are selected according to playing to generate a musical sound signal that expresses one musical instrument tone. As to editing of the tone data, input and on/off can be set for each element by element editing in an external editing device PC. In the electronic musical instrument EM, the common parameter can be edited to all elements Em1-Em8 by common editing.
