1307027 Pipe couplings BRIDGESTONE TIRE KK 10 Aug 1971 [10 Aug 1970 3 Oct 1970] 37593/71 Heading F2G Pipes 10 are flexibly coupled by a connector comprising at least one end cylindrical member 1, 2 an intermediate cylindrical member 3 spaced from and axially overlapping the end member and bonded thereto by thermallyadhesive resilient rubber 4, and tension-limiting means 5, 14 to limit the extent to which the connector may flex. In one embodiment, as shown in Fig. 4, the tension-limiting means comprise a number of chains or ropes 5 connected to end members 1, 2 whilst the intermediate member 3 lies within the end members and is embedded in the rubber bonding 4. The end members may be connected to the pipes 10 by bolted flanges 6 which may extend radially outwards or inwards of the connector (Fig. 5, not shown). In variations of the embodiment, one end member 2 may be omitted, the intermediate member 3 carrying a flange for coupling to a pipe (Fig. 6, not shown). A further intermediate member (3a) (Fig. 7, not shown) may be incorporated with tension-limiting chains or ropes 5 extending between the end member and the additional intermediate member and between the latter member and the flanged intermediate member to increase flexure of the connector.
