1318815 Electrochemical analysis MILES LABORATORIES Inc 27 May 1971 [8 June 1970] 17566/71 Heading G1N An electrochemical analysis probe includes an insulating base member 10 carrying a pair of spaced thin film electrode elements 11, 22 coated with a semi-permeable matrix 12 incorporating a test reagent. The electrodes 11, 22 of silver, gold or platinum or carbon are deposited and formed by thin film printed circuit techniques, coated by insulation 13 in the middle region and at their end by a cellulose acetate semipermeable membrane gel 12 incorporating an immobilized urea-determining test reagent e. g. arease. Exposed terminals 23, 23a plug into handle 21. The electrode system 11, 22 may be duplicated on the opposite side of base 10 and coated with a membrane layer not incorporating a test reagent. An oscillator is connected to the two sets of electrodes, Fig.3 (not shown) and the outputs proportional to the conductivity compared in a summing amplifier, the output of which is applied to an indicator or differentiated to give the direction of change of the differential conductivity. The system of Fig.3 (not shown) may be used for detecting glucose, urea enzymes in blood. the probe may be used for in voltammetry and E M F measurements.
