Supported Rh catalysts are made by preparing a solution of a Rh component selected from Rh metal or Rh compounds, contacting the rhodium in solution with a carbon monoxide component and a halide component, the halide component serving as a catalyst promoter and being selected from Br, I and compounds of Br and of I, to provide a solution of a Rh complex, and thereafter impregnating the Rh complex solution upon a carrier, and drying the resultant product. In examples (1) a solution of RhCl 3 and HI is carbonylated and supported on carbon. Other carriers mentioned are Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 , MgO, diatomaceous earth, bauxite, TiO 2 , ZrO 2 , clays, CaO, MgSiO 3 , SiC, zeolites and polymers.</p> |
