Forming inorg coatings - by applying onto cold substrate mixt of coating material and binder, and heating

Mixture of an inorg. coating material (e.g. a ceramic glare compsn.) and a pref. org. binder is preheated to a temp. below the m.pt. of the inorg. coating material, then applied onto a cold substrate, and heated (pref. by flaming or irradiation or a hot air stream) to burn or otherwise expel the organic binder, and to melt the coating material, which subsequently solidifies to form a coating firmly adhering to the substrate. Pref. the coating material and the binder are applied in the form of a composite foil. Uniform, defect-free coating is formed; its thickness, colouration etc. can be easily and accurately controlled.
