THE MATT SURFACE TYPICALLY USED IN SUCH DISPLAY TECHNOLOGIES (FOR EXAMPLE LCD SCREENS) HAS AN OPTICALLY ROUGH OR IRREGULAR SURFACE, WHICH COMBINED WITH THE EFFECT OF DIFFERING REFRACTIVE INDEX BETWEEN THE SURFACE MATERIAL AND THE AMBIENT AIR CAUSES BOTH REFLECTED AND TRANSMITTED LIGHT TO SCATTER OR OTHERWISE BE DIFFUSED.
