<p>1320045 Production of manganese dioxide MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 29 Dec 1970 [29 Dec 1969 (2)] 61677/70 Heading C7B [Also in Division H1] A method of making an active form of manganese dioxide for use as a depolariser in a dry cell comprises electrolysing a mixture of 0À01-1À0 mole/litre Ha plus 0À2-6À0 mole/litre MnCl 2 at a bath temperature 70‹ -90‹ C and a current density of 0À3-5À0 A/dm<SP>2</SP> so that the apparent current efficiency is 60-102 per cent. The resulting manganese dioxide has a sharp peak in its X-ray diffraction pattern at 28 degrees indicating an index plane (110) ramsdellite and x is MnO x is 1À970-1À990. The oxide has a high depolarisation activity, a good discharge utilisation efficiency and contains 94-98À5% of effective oxygen. Specification 1214654 is referred to.</p> |
