The molten metal is introduced below the surface of the liq. metal in the mould, and in a zone adjacent to the ingot mould wall the metal has a movement oriented along the axis of the prodt. imparted to it over its whole periphery in the opposite direction to the direction of introduction of the molten metal. The movement is imparted by an electromagnetic winding surrounding the ingot mould.
