1,201,820. Casings. G. MOLYNEUX and G. W. MOLYNEUX. 23 Oct., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967; 30 Nov., 1967; 9 Feb., 1968], Nos. 48433/67, 54439/67 and 6468/68. Headings E1K and E1W. A fire resistant casing for, e.g. a metal joist, comprises a number of shell members formed to interlock by relative longitudinal movement with an adjacent shell member (Fig. 1) or with further locking members (Figure 6), the shell members and/or locking members being formed with longitudinally surfaces which are inclined to the horizontal (Fig. 7, not shown) such that relative longitudinal movement causes the shell member to be drawn tightly against the joist. As shown in Fig. 6 yoke-shaped shell members 31, 32 mate with locking blocks 33, 34, the outward projections 38, 39 of the shell members engaging with the inclined undercut surfaces of the blocks by means of a wedging action. In another embodiment (Fig. 5) shell members are assembled to form a hollow vertical casing which is subsequently filled with liquid cement. |
