1389277 Phosphorus-containing condensation polymers CIBA-GEIGY AG 5 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971 14 Jan 1972] 41099/72 Heading C3R [Also in Division D1] Condensation products are obtained by condensing 1 mol. of tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)- phosphonium compound at 40‹ to 120‹ C. with 0À02 to 0À5 mol. of an optionally methylolated monocyclic or bicyclic urea which contains 5 or 6 members per ring, optionally also with formaldehyde or a formaldehyde-releasing agent and optionally in an inert organic solvent. The condensation may be continued at 100‹ to 150‹ C. and free hydroxyl groups may be etherified. Materials especially fabrics may be flameproofed by applying to them aqueous compositions containing the condensation products together with polyfunctional epoxides or polyfunctional nitrogen compounds. In examples tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-phosphonium chloride is condensed with ethyleneurea, propyleneurea, acetylenediurea, N,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethylol-glyoxylurea, N,N<SP>1</SP>-dimethylol . 4 - methoxy - 5,5 - dimethyl - hexahydropyrimidone, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dimethylol - N<SP>11</SP>- ethyltriazone and with propyleneurea and formaldehyde; tetrakis - (hydroxymethyl)- phosphonium hydroxide is condensed with ethyleneurea; aqueous compositions containing the condensation products together with dimethylolmelamine and trimethylolmelaminedimethylether as polyfunctional nitrogen compounds, are applied to fabrics of mixed polyester and cotton, cotton and wool, the fabrics being dried and heated and partially dried and contacted with ammonia, to cure the condensation products. |
