摘要 1410495 Aerating and defoaming liquids R A DEWALL 8 Sept 1972 [8 Sept 1971] 40192/ 72 Headings B1C and B1M [Also in Division A5] A bubble blood oxygenator comprising a mixing chamber 27 and means for supplying venous blood and respiratory gas thereto, includes an apertured assembly 46 for passing the gas into the mixing chamber and control means 53 for varying the area of the apertures which is effective to pass gas into the mixing chamber thereby to adjust the size of the bubbles formed in the mixing chamber. The gas dispersion assembly may comprise an inner tube 46 having several longitudinally arranged rows of apertures 49-51, the apertures in each row being of the same size as one another but being of a size different from the apertures of the other rows. The inner tube is rotatable within an outer tube 53 having a longitudinal slot 55 to selectively expose only one of the rows to the mixing chamber 27. The inner tube may be blocked by exposing an a pertureless portion 57 through the slot 55, a vent 60 in the outer tube then being aligned with a vent in the inner tube to permit the escape of gas outside the oxygenator. The oxygenator housing is generally cubical and the mixing chamber 27 has a movable wall 70 for varying its volume. Blood passes from the mixing chamber 27 to a debubbling chamber 81 and thence along a ridged ramp 82 to a reservoir ramp 115 delivering one side of a reservoir 117 from which it reaches the outlet (28). In the debubbling chamber the blood passes through a defoaming bag 87 comprising a rigid mesh framework surrounded by layers of polypropylene net or polyurethane grid material coated with a defoaming agent, and a filter 129. The temperature of the blood is controlled by either a plate 126 which is electrically activated or includes a passage for water or by the reservoir ramp (155) Figures 8 and 9 (not shown), which has a corrugated surface and channels for water. Alternatively the oxygenator may be mounted on a temperature-controlling water channel member (206) Figure 10 (not shown) which engages the underside of the reservoir ramp (208). Medicament may be injected into the blood through a vent 125 and a suction device for collecting blood from the patients wound may be connected to the mixing chamber at a fitting 25. A float (122), Figure 4 (not shown) in the reservoir prevents air passing through the outlet when the oxygenator is empty of blood.
