<p>A preparation consisting of a vehicle to introduce into the mouth, and dextranase (10-5,000 units/g. or ml. of vehicle as each unit dose). To remove, or suppress the formation of, dental plaque. This reduces cavities and generally improves oral hygiene, which helps to prevent periodontic disease. The vehicle is chosen among toothpaste, dental powder, a lotion, an unguent, a jet of water, a chewing-gum, a pastille, a tablet, any composition for chewing, food and drink. The dextranase is obtained from the culture media of Penicillium funiculosum cultures grown on (eg.) 0.2% dextran, 0.05% asparagine, 0.05% K2HPO4, 0.05% MgSO4. 7H2O, 0.001% FeSO4. 7H2O, 2% gelose. The appropriate strain is N.R.R.L. No.1768. The mycelium is filtered off, the culture medium is concentrated, precipitated with (NH4)2SO4, dialysed, and freeze-dried. The final product has 100-200 units of dextranase mg. of powder. This is mixed into the appropriate vehicle.</p> |
