To permit the heads to be lowered towards the discs by springs 51, 52, a solenoid 68 is energized which, via crank 71 loaded by spring 76, moves a link 61 upwardly, causing the members 38, 53 to rotate about their pivot points 38a, 38b; 53-55a, 53-55b and eventually break contact with rollers 37, 57-59 of arm extensions 36, 47-49. A dashpot 77 controls the speed of this operation. The radial positioning of carriage 19 on guide rod 40 is accomplished by a linear motor under control of a servo system including a pick-up 20 moving over a scale 22. |
