The conveyer flights 32 are located to space, correctly, the groups C of cigars on the wrapping material 14 as the latter is drawn over the platform 10. As the material 14 advances it is folded into tubular form, by ploughs not shown, and to define a vertical fin 34 which is drivingly engaged by the pairs of rollers 36, 36, and 40, 40, the fin 34 passing through heater elements 38, 38 which co-operate with the rollers 40, 40 to effect a seal on the fin 34 the latter remaining heated while it is subsequently folded down by a plough 42. The wrapper tube is severed, and heat-sealed, between successive cigar groups, by relatively-movable, conventional, heating-and-cutting elements 44 located at the end of the platform 10. Each severed pack P is carried off by a conveyer 52 which moves the packs on to a cross conveyer 59, the pusher flights 56, 56 of which convey the packs P on to a second platform 60 where they pass through an opposed pair of guides 62, 62, heaters 64, 64, and folders 66, 66 to heat, and fold over, the ends of the pack 50, Fig. 1. A tear tape 68, supplied on a roll 70 is fed over a guide rolls 72, 74 to pass, with the wrapper 14, through heater elements 76, 76 to be sealed to the top surface of the wrapper. The knife 46, which severs the wrapper tube, is preferably notched so that an end portion of the tear tape 68 is exposed for gripping. Each wrapped pack is moved off the platform 60 into the sideopening of a carton, not shown.</p> |
