Appts. comprises a column on which are mounted upper and lower carriages which can move vertically on the column and which carry an electrode holder and a core resp; and a cooled ingot mould situated on a base plate in the form of a carriage with a hole in the area in which the ingot cavity is shaped, the base plate being moveable horizontally by a drive unit. The lower part of the core has a swivel fixed between plates mounted on the arm of the lower carriage on the column so that the core can move aside angularly w.r.t. the arm so as to remain in the vertical posn.
