1411331 Locking pivots R J NEWBOULD 2 Jan 1973 [10 Jan 1972]'231/73 Heading E2F [Also in Division B3] In an indexing mechanism for work and tool holding devices, discs 1, 2, 3 and 4 are provided with teeth A, B and C of different pitches which are adapted to be interengaged when the correct meshing positions between the discs have been determined. Suitable scale markings are provided on the discs to afford direct reading of the relative position of the discs with a datum line 0. One of the pitches between a pair of meshing discs is not evenly divisable into a circle and this necessitates a clearance area to accommodate non-meshing or improperly meshing teeth to allow the necessary movement used in subdividing one of the other pitches. The scale of disc 1 indicates individual degrees, the scale of disc 2 indicates individual minutes and the scale of disc 3 indicates individual seconds. The base datum reference 0 remains stationary on disc 4 and the remaining discs are set to indicate the desired angle, thereafter the discs are clamped in the manner shown in Figure 6. Figure 2 illustrates a position of the indexing mechanism indicating an angle of 1‹ 15'0". Alternative embodiments are disclosed in the Specification (Figures 7-9 inc. and 10-12 inc, not shown) wherein annular rings provided with intermeshing teeth enable the indexing mechanism to be set at appropriate angles. |
