A metal blank is punched from strip and in one or more pressing operations the portions 2, 3 and 4 and a flange 6 are formed. The face A<SP>1</SP> of the flange is parallel with a radial plane A<SP>11</SP> extending through a bearing 5. The flange is punched to form the circumferential locating surface 7, which may be provided with slots 37, Fig. 3. The punching tool may engage the hub portion 4 to ensure that the surface 7 is coaxial with the bearing. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2, the hub itself forms part of an outer ball race 20, which may be machined after the pressing operation. The support is placed against a stator abutment surface 31 and is located axially by the annular abutment surface and radially by the surface 7. It is secured by an adhesive 36 which fills the slots 37 thereby preventing angular displacement of the support. |
