Pipe pieces, for use esp. as battery anode castings, are produced by extruding a non-woven elastic pipe consisting of plastic material contg. >65 vol.% oil filler and >10 vol.% inorg., solid filler, and forming a pipe which is too soft to be self-supporting; hardening the extruded pipe to self-supporting state by passing it through an air gap near to extrusion mould and maintaining the shape of the pipe during hardening by air pressure, in inner space of pipe and maintaining a balance of inner air press. by means of an external air-press., where the external air press. is generated at least in part through an air-current which meets on zones of the pipe in order to prevent deformation caused through the pipe's own wt. Pipe pref. consists of a plastic mixt. contg. 10-35 wt.% high mol. wt. polyethylene, 5-20 wt.% ethylene copolymer with 10-20 wt.% hexene or butene, 30-65 wt.% silica gel as filler and 5-15 wt.% oil, and has 60-80 vol.% porosity. |
