The rectangular cast iron hollow plates have at their corners connecting channels. A number of these plates can be stacked together and the corner channels are used for connecting the hollow cavities of the cast plates. The heat transfer surfaces formed between the stacked plates have projections or ribs for increasing the heat transfer surfaces and for braking the flow of gases. These heat transfer elements are used especially for wall mounted gas fired boilers. The gas passages into the hollow castings are diagonal channels formed on the stacked corner features. The other two diagonal corners are used merely as supports for stacking.
